Redeeming Our Communities : Community Showcase

June 30th marked another milestone in the development of Redeeming Our Communities as we hosted a Showcase event in Greater Manchester. The showcase was attended by over 1,000 people, who came together to share the next steps in community engagement and partnership working.

As guests approached The Velodrome National cycling centre they were greeted by mounted police, a fire engine, a mobile police unit and loads of fire cadets. The programme included contributions from the Chief Constable of GMP Peter Fahy and Chief Fire Officer Steve McGuirk, performances from Twelve 24 and the Manchester Sing Out Choir, as well as lots of examples of great community projects. The idea was to inspire delegates and to spark new ideas.

Projects featured included; ROC Café (click here for more details), ROC boxing gym, street clean-up projects, Big Screen sports events, music projects like Sing 4 Fun, Bury football league, caring and sharing working with older adults and loads more.

We gave an appeal for people to consider becoming a ROC Ambassador. We hope that over 1,000 people will join us as ROC Ambassadors by Christmas- find out how you can get involved here.

Each delegate received an interactive resource pack by email following the event, and we have already received a lot of correspondence regarding potential new projects. To download a copy of the resource pack, go to www.redeemingourcommunities.org.uk/rocresource (the download should begin automatically, and may take a few minutes).

The next ROC Showcase event takes place in Birmingham on November 16th, hope to see you there
