18 August 2011 - ROC Devon and Cornwall
The last few days have really moved our ROC Devon and Cornwall initiative into a new gear!
We began with meetings at Police HQ in Plymouth which enabled us to see many ways of working together in the most challenging parts of the city, which is the largest in the region. This was followed by a meeting with civic leaders and various organisations including: City College Plymouth, Probation, Fire & Rescue, Police, Youth Services, Cross Rhythms, Churches Together in Plymouth, Local Council, MP, Methodist District, Rotary, Plymouth Pregnancy Crisis Centre, Job Centre Plus and others.
A ROC Café has been proposed for Mount Gould in Plymouth, a partnership between youth services, the police and Mount Gould Methodist. Some funding was pledged during the meeting!
Afterwards we had a quick tour around the Pavilions which seems like the perfect venue to host the launch.
On Tuesday we met with ACC Taylor and ACC Netherton from Devon and Cornwall Police, who gave their full support to the initiative. I was moved to hear that Devon and Cornwall Police had sent 27 officers to help with the riots in London.
Later in the day we did a briefing in Torbay which included various agencies. Both Torbay and Plymouth were very excited about the prospects of the launch and the ongoing initiative. Lots of churches expressed interest in partnering with ROC to run a whole variety of community projects in the region. It was a brilliant trip.
